"I heard police or ambulancemen, standing in our house, say, "She must have provoked him," or, "Mrs Stewart, it takes two to make a fight." They had no idea. The truth is my mother did nothing to deserve the violence she endured. She did not provoke my father, and even if she had, violence is an unacceptable way of dealing with conflict. Violence is a choice a man makes and he alone is responsible for it." ~Patrick Stewart

It's the kids watching it every day that suffer without the voice - and you and I need to help give them one. I have cats as family/kids and they are not alone. Spouses will attack, harm and kill your children in front of you, or threaten to as a way to control you. We know now that cats, dogs, hamsters, your family rabbit - all of them are in danger in a domestic violence situation. We also now know that early signs of abuse are often directed at the family pets, neighborhood pets, or ferals that are used as a means of "practicing" this or venting the early signs of rage. The rage is about one thing - the abusers' inability to deal with emotions and/or their severe hatred OF THEMSELVES. It is not okay for them to take it out on animals, human children, the disabled, or you! Get help! Be safe, keep safe! But get help. Do your research at the library or at a friend's house if you have to. Call the police. Accept the ended relationship and take refuge with safe friends or relatives, or a shelter. WE NEED PETS TO BE ALLOWED AT SHELTERS! Spread the word!

Here are two prayers that may provide you comfort while you struggle to heal from abuse.
They are to be used in conjunction with seeking help from other people and the law.
Take awhile and try them out for a few days, you may find them useful.

(learn more about Gertrude)

Prayer to Saint Gertrude Van Oosten
(for the broken-spirited, & victims of assault and abuse)

Lady of the wild wind
Will you bless my body with calm and patience
Will you take the away the wounds of abuse
Will you take away the pain of my heart's breaking
Will you take me to the place of moving towards the light
The light that breaks in the East.

(learn more about Diana)
Prayer to Diana, Goddess of the Hunt
(for strength, courage, & persistence)

Diana on high
I impeach the men (women) who batter my body
I implore you to warrant respect by action against them
My world is a fragile body
My time is a limited tool
I use my home for my children's (own) (family's) (pet's) safety
I hold my heart out to you for protection from battery
Aid in my quest for calm and patience
As I wait by the side of the wood.

Please look for a way out; you deserve a chance at happiness.
Love - true love - does not oppress you.
You can find better.
The struggle and pain of getting away will be worth it.
Your safety - physical and emotional - matters more than anything else.

peace.
